Welcome

Welcome to Vee’s Fit Life. I am so excited to share my fitness journey with you! Over the next twelve weeks, I am going to write about my experience as a first-time bikini bodybuilding competitor. I am preparing for a bodybuilding competition that takes place on July 1, 2023. Over the next three months, I will share what it is like to live a bodybuilding lifestyle.

What is competition prep?

My coach defines prep as the twelve weeks prior to competition, but depending on your level of fitness and the amount of weight that an individual needs to lose, prep could last for sixteen weeks, or even longer. During competition prep, the goal is to decrease body fat so that by competition day, the judges will be able to assess the athletes’ physiques. During prep, most athletes decrease their calories, increase cardio, and continue to lift weights four to six days per week. Depending on the nutritional program, an athlete may follow a meal plan or log his or her food and maintain strict macros.

What happens prior to prep?

Typically a bodybuilder will be in an off-season when not actively prepping for a competition. This is the time that athletes build muscle and maintain or develop the training, nutrition, and sleep habits required to maintain optimal health and build the lean muscle mass required to successfully compete.
